I worked closely with Seattle-based singer-songwriter Mark Ippolito on his website redesign. His existing website was in need of a refresh, as well as moving away from his hosting company as renewal rates were escalating.

There are several advantages to having a self-hosting WordPress website over web service companies such as Wix, Bandzoogle, or Squarespace:

  1. WordPress is an open-source platform for creating websites, so it’s not tied to a specific service or webhost, and YOU own all your content
  2. WordPress is very popular, with over 40% of all websites created with WordPress
  3. You can do just about anything on a WordPress site, from blogging to e-commerce and fully customized design
  4. Cost can be lower than most web hosting services

Mark and I worked over Zoom calls, a shared Google sheet, and email to organize the content, tweak the design, and add functionality. The site features a homepage hero video, upcoming shows with “Add to calendar” buttons, and an Electronic Press Kit.

It was a pleasure working with Mark. He’s a talented folk artist with a clear vision for his content, and a great communicator.
